About The Vartaa
We are building the definitive multi-source news platform—unifying fragmented global reporting into consolidated story clusters with authenticated, civil community discussion.
1. Why We Built The Vartaa
In today's digital media landscape, following the news is exhausting. When a major story breaks, dozens of outlets publish nearly identical reports with slight framing differences, scattering readers across clickbait headlines, paywalls, and polarizing social media algorithms. Worse yet, over the past decade, most newsrooms shuttered their comment sections to cut moderation costs—depriving the public of a shared civic space to analyze, debate, and verify information.
The Vartaa was created to solve both problems simultaneously. We believe that news is more than just broadcast text—it is a collaborative civic conversation. By pairing automated algorithmic deduplication with authenticated community forums, we provide readers with complete perspective in a single, high-signal destination.
2. Our Core Pillars
Multi-Source Deduplication
Our ingestion engine clusters overlapping dispatches from wires (Reuters, AP), national broadcasters (BBC, DW), and tech publications into single consolidated threads.
The Return of Comment Sections
Anonymous drive-by trolling is disabled. Every commenter is authenticated with rate limits and community moderation, restoring insightful, domain-expert discourse.
Strict Fair-Use Standards
We never scrape or host full articles. We index only headlines and brief contextual excerpts under 240 characters, prominently linking readers to original publishers.
Modern Minimalist Design
Built on the Vercel Geist design system. Zero flashing banners, zero popup newsletter modals, and full dark-theme support for focused reading.
3. How the Ingestion Pipeline Works
The Vartaa scans dozens of verified RSS feeds and official publication streams every 20 minutes across 6 distinct categories: Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Business, World Affairs, Science, and Sports.
- Ingestion: Fresh dispatches under 72 hours are parsed and sanitized.
- TF-IDF & Token Overlap Clustering: Stories sharing key named entities and temporal proximity are grouped.
- Thread Normalization: Primary coverage is highlighted, and all other reporting outlets are linked out.
- Realtime Discussion: Supabase realtime channels handle upvoting, moderation flags, and threaded commentary.
4. Editorial Independence & Publisher Inquiries
The Vartaa does not accept sponsored editorial placements or partisan advertising. Outlets wishing to update their feed attribution, suggest feeds, or request inclusion/removal under robots.txt can reach out directly via our contact desk.
