At The Vartaa (“we”, “our”, or “us”), we take your privacy seriously. We operate a streamlined news aggregation and discussion platform designed to minimize personal data collection. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data with third-party data brokers or targeted advertising networks.

We collect only the minimum information necessary to authenticate members and maintain discussion integrity:

  • Account Details: When you register or sign in via Supabase Auth (email magic link or Google OAuth), we store your email address, chosen username, and public avatar URL.
  • User Contributions: We store comments you submit, votes (+1/-1) you cast, and moderation reports you file.
  • Technical Telemetry: Standard web server logs (IP address, browser user-agent, operating system, and request timestamps) processed for security monitoring, DDoS mitigation, and spam filtering.

3. How Your Information is Used

Collected information is utilized strictly to:

  • Authenticate your login session securely across devices.
  • Attribute comments, replies, and community votes accurately to your profile handle.
  • Enforce anti-spam controls, progressive rate limiting (30-second cooldowns), and Terms of Service compliance.
  • Deliver important account alerts or responses to user support inquiries.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We use strictly necessary first-party cookies and browser local storage:

  • Theme Preference: We store your chosen UI theme (light or dark) in localStorage and a cookie so the site loads without flash of unstyled content (FOUC).
  • Session Authentication: Supabase SSR cookies preserve your secure login token between page transitions and protect against CSRF attacks.
  • No Tracking Pixels: We do not load third-party ad retargeting pixels (such as Meta Pixel or cross-site advertising beacons).

5. Third-Party Outbound Links

The Vartaa aggregates news headlines and links out to primary publishers (including Reuters, BBC, Ars Technica, TechCrunch, and Bloomberg). When you click an outbound link to read the original article, you are directed to that publisher's site, which is governed by their independent privacy policies and tracking practices. We recommend reviewing their respective privacy statements.

6. Your Data Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Regardless of your geographic location, you enjoy the right to:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request the rectification of inaccurate profile data.
  • Request the deletion of your account and associated comments (“Right to be Forgotten”).
  • Opt out of any marketing or non-essential communications.
